Subgroup - Definition in the Study of Sociology

Definition: A subgroup is a collection of people who identify themselves as members of a group that is also part of a larger social system to which they belong. Subgroups can be formally defined, such as an office unit or a student club, or it can be informally defined, such as a friendship clique.
